Some designs are defined not by what is added, but by what is revealed.

Hidden Treasures, by LA Design Studio, explores this idea through a careful interplay of material and craft. In this project, surfaces are not simply applied, but uncovered. At the heart of the project lies a striking contrast: stone, broken and shaped by hand, giving way to a beautiful bronze, lava-like surface beneath.

Crafted with intention, the stone feature is not a prefabricated finish. Each edge was hand-chiselled on-site by the design team, embracing irregularity and rejecting uniformity. This process allows the surface to feel raw, tactile, and deeply personal, where no two edges are exactly alike.

Beneath it, Dekodur Distil Vegas Lava introduces a contrasting yet complementary layer. Its molten, textured finish carries a sense of depth and movement, subtly catching light and drawing attention without overpowering the composition. The result is a material dialogue that feels both grounded and expressive.

Material Contrast, Reimagined

The project brings together two seemingly opposing materials and turns them into a cohesive whole. Rather than concealing transitions between materials, Hidden Treasures highlights them. The moment where stone breaks away to reveal metal becomes the focal point — transforming what could have been a junction into a defining design feature.

The roughness of the chiselled stone contrasts elegantly against the layered, almost fluid quality of the metal laminate. Light interacts differently across each surface—absorbed by the stone, reflected and diffused by the bronze finish—creating a dynamic interplay throughout the day.

This shift in texture and light introduces a sense of discovery. As one moves through the space, surfaces reveal themselves gradually, reinforcing the project’s central idea: that beauty can exist beneath, not just on the surface.

Designing Through Craft

Hidden Treasures is ultimately a reflection of process as much as outcome.

By choosing to shape materials by hand, the design moves away from standardisation and towards something more considered. The imperfections are not flaws, but features — adding character and authenticity to the space.

Paired with the depth and tactility of Dekodur Distil’s metal laminates, the result is a project that feels both refined and raw. A space where materials are not just seen, but experienced.
